Chef Mellanee R. Harvin
Mellanee graduated from New York Restaurant School
in 1992, with honors after a short time in corporate
America. Searching for something more creative
and satisfying she found her niche in preparing
and presenting food that is flavorful and visually
appealing through her catering company, The Fork
Goes on the Left.
It is this experience and desire for broader
knowledge that led her to Essence Magazine where
she free-lanced as a Recipe Tester for the Living
Well Section of the Magazine, working closely
with Food Editor, Jonell Nash. Realizing her desire
for more challenge and enrichment, Mellanee took
it a step further. Appreciating the beauty of
food displayed in magazines and books, she decided
to study another aspect of the food industry –
Food Styling.
Apprenticing with Bettina Fisher and Victoria
Granof, she gained experience working with such
clients as People Magazine – B. Smith Holiday
Photo Shoot, Essence Magazine, Martha Stewart
Living , Harper’s Bazaar, Child Magazine,
Better Homes & Gardens and Glamour. This experience
culminated in her solo Food Styling experience
with Harriette Cole and John Pinderhughes on their
joint collaboration - Coming Together –
Celebrations for African American Families.
Because of her love of food, with all of the
wonderful flavors, textures and aromas, Mellanee
is able to combine her knowledge into a total
package that you can enjoy visually before devouring.
